2017 Concerts to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the installation of the organ at St Mary's, Finedon

Friday 12 May at 7:30pm - Organ Recital by the international recitalist James Parsons in aid of the Northamptonshire Village Churches Organ Project (NVCOP). Tickets £15 available on the door.

Saturday 20 May at 7:30pm - Concert by the Choir Of Peterborough Cathedral to mark the 300th anniversary of the installation of the organ. Music includes a specially commissioned setting of Psalm 150 for choir and organ by Francis Pott (descendent of Rev Sir John Dolben who brought the organ to Finedon in 1717) and a performance of William Croft's setting of the same psalm written for the organ's installation here in 1717. Tickets £12 available on the door.

Monday 29 May 10am to 3:14pm 314 minute Organ Recital by Jonathan Harris to mark to 314 years since the organ was built (drop in anytime during the recital). Free entry; you are welcome to look around the church during the recital.

Saturday 17 June at 7:30pm Concert by the Northampton Philharmonic Choir. Music includes a Handel Organ Concerto and Haydn's Little Organ Mass.

Sunday 18 June Come & Sing Messiah Part 3 and Gorecki's Totus Tuus (RSCM Sunday) 4pm rehearsal and 6pm informal performance.

Soprano Emily Haig gave a recital at St Mary's, Finedon as part of our Flower Festival celebrations with all the money from ticket sales being shared equally between church funds and the charity Animals in Need.

Boccherini's Stabat Mater performed by Ad Parnassum, an Italian early music group...with cream tea

We are delighted to welcome the early music group Ad Parnassum who will perform Boccherini's Stabat Mater, accompanied by the Venetian ensemble L'Offerta Musicale. There will be Cream Tea at 3.15pm, then the concert at 4pm. Tickets are £12. The music is seasonally appropriate; the concert will last just under an hour.

Tuesday 3rd November at 7.00pm - Classical String Quartet

Following their performance of Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas in August, L’Offerta Musicale di Venezia are returning to St Mary’s Finedon to give a concert of classical string quartets by Haydn and Beethoven. The concert will include an introductory talk about the music, presented by the composer Philip Sawyers. Saturday 21st November at 7.30pm - New England Chorale - choral concert plus two organ solos

Pièces de Résistance: Jewels of the Choral Repertoire


The New England Chamber Chorale will be giving a concert in the church on Saturday 21st November at 7.30 pm, together with Jonathan Harris on the organ. In spite of its name, the Chorale is not from America, but from the East Midlands, with members from Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and Leicestershire under the direction of Phillip Gilbert from Wellingborough. Their chronologically and geographically wide-ranging programme will include gems from such masters as Bruckner, Randall Thompson, Pierre Villette, Francis Poulenc – and even our own Gilbert! – together with some solo and duet items and opera choruses. In support, Jonathan Harris will be showing off the beautifully restored organ – it not only sounds good, it looks good too!  Tickets at £10/£8 will be available on the door or from Helen Murphy (01933 680955).

Saturday 19th September 2015 at 7.30pm

Music for Viols and Voices performed by professional singers and viol players.

To include music by Gibbons, Tomkins, Byrd and Purcellm along with music associated with St Mary's, Finedon including the newly transcribed anthems by William Croft, written for Finedon in 1717 and 1720, Praise God in His Sanctuary and Come Ye Tuneful Sisters.


Organ Recitals:

Future organ recitals are currently being arranged; occasional Saturday 7.30pm recitals and more regular Saturday 11.00 Coffee and Cake Organ Recitals.

All our organ recitals are free admission with a retiring collection.
