Welcome to the Choir of St Mary the Virgin, Finedon website

The choir sings for the weekly 9.30am Sunday Eucharist service, at Choral Evensong at 6pm on the first Sunday of every month and on other special occasions.

The choir currently consists of 7 sopranos, 5 altos, 4 tenors, 6 basses plus several children and occasional visiting singers. The repertoire is generally traditional Anglican church music.  See the monthly Music Lists for details.

Choir practices take place in church on Fridays 7.00 to 8.10pm. See the 'How to Join' section for further details but feel free just to turn up to try it out - regular or occasional singers are both welcome.

We will post messages in due course about restarting the choir after the stoppage due to Covid-19 so people know how and when singing in church will resume.

In April 2012 the choir was awarded a merit in the RSCM Bishops Award for Choirs examination; following this they sang Choral Evensong as a visiting choir at Peterborough Cathedral in February 2013 and again in February 2015 and 2017. In February 2016 we sang Choral Evensong as the Visiting Choir at Canterbury Cathedral. In March 2019 we sang as the Visiting Choir at Ely Cathedral.

Several members of our choirs have attained RSCM Voice for Life Awards, ranging from White, Light Blue, Dark Blue and Bronze in the Children's Choir, to Bronze, Silver and Gold in the main choir.

In July 2014, our RSCM Music Sunday event - Come and Sing Choral Evensong accompanied by a consort of viols - was filmed and featured by RSCM to promote their annual RSCM Music Sunday campaign.

The Finedon Festival Chorus sings for Festal Evensongs such as at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend and the annual church Flower Festival in September. We also hold an annual Come & Sing Messiah Part One with Carols every December.
